Newcastle V Arsenal - As it happened
FT: Newcastle 2 - 1 Arsenal - An impressive performance and result from Newcastle, who came from one goal down to win 1-2 through goals from Perez and Ritchie. The Magpies continue their incredible form in 2018, while Arsenal will be disappointed with themselves, after failing to penetrate the Newcastle back-line in the second half.
Islam Slimani is booked for booting the ball away. Looks like Newcastle are going to do it here.
The home crowd roars after a great duel between Nketiah and Monreal. Meanwhile, the referee announces that there will be three minutes of added time.
Newcastle defending with passion here, with Arsenal in control of possession. Despite their dominance they still can't quite find a chance, and time is running out.
Goalscorer Matt Ritchie comes off, and on comes Murphy. Iwobi also comes off, in favour of Nketiah.
Close for Arsenal! Dubravka flaps at a ball in the box, and it falls to Lacazette, who has an open goal. It's a tight angle though, and he hits the side-netting.
Arsene Wenger does not look happy. His side haven't really shown any signs of pulling one back in the last 15 minutes, despite being 1 down. There are 7 minutes of ordinary time to play, can Newcastle hold onto this lead?
Goalscorer Perez is making way for Joselu, receiving a standing ovation from the home fans. Meanwhile Arsenal replace Chambers with Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
CLOSE! Newcastle come very near to making it three, after Islam Slimani sets up Kenedy. His shot is rebounded off an Arsenal player, bouncing off Cech. It is saved by the crossbar, and unluckily for the home side the ball falls back out to an Arsenal defender, who clears.
GOAL! Newcastle! Matt Ritchie! Islam Slimani pounces on a mistake from Nacho Monreal, heading across to Perez just outside the box. Perez plays it straight over to Ritchie, who slams it home on his right foot to put the home side ahead! He steams over to the fans in the corner and boots the corner flag out of the ground. He puts it back in place afterwards though. Good lad.
First change for Arsenal. Debutant Willock comes off in place of Welbeck.
Close! Iwobi tries his luck after his attempted pass comes back at him after rebounding off Lejeune. He hits a low effort from outside the box, but it's just wide.
A clumsy challenge from Mustafi sees Slimani win a free-kick just after coming on. Nothing comes of it though, and Matt Richie skies an attempt a minute later.
And here he comes. Dwight Gayle, who has been impressive, comes off.
Looks like Islam Slimani is going to be coming on soon. He's getting the black and white kit on in preparation.
Matt Ritchie isn't best pleased after he is pulled up for a foul on Nacho Monreal. The Newcastle midfielder was chasing down the defender and left a stud on him, but there was no intent.
Arsenal probably the more likely of the two to score here, as they dominate possession, but no clear cut chances so far. Newcastle still look a threat on the break.
Ayoze Perez breaks away on the counter after an Arsenal attack, and approaches the Arsenal box, but his touch lets him down and Cech is able to sweep up.
Monreal manages to dig out a lovely cross down the left, and Lacazette just fails to head it. It falls to Iwobi, who skies it, but the ref blows for handball anyway.
Lacazette gets us underway for the second half!
HT: Newcastle 1 - 1 Arsenal - A fairly equally contested first half, as the score suggests. Arsenal grew into the game after a fast Newcastle start, and took the lead through Lacazette in the 14th minute, before Ayoze Perez equalised in the 29th after a lovely piece of counter-attacking play. All square at the break.
Close! The debutant fluffs his lines. Lacazette jumps on a misplaced pass from Diame, and puts Willock in. The 18-year-old panics, though, and misses it.
Gayle is waiting like a fox in the box for a rebound, after Richie hit a powerful effort at Cech. If the Arsenal keeper had spilled it would have been a clear-cut chance, but he holds.
Close! Arsenal get a free-kick, which is initially hit by Aubameyang, then Xhaka on the rebound, towards the back post. Holding puts in a diving header to set up Chambers, but it's just too much of a stretch for him.
Debutant Willock loses the ball and flies in late on Perez, leading to another free-kick for Shelvey to hit. It doesn't come to anything, though.
Close! Some persistent work at the byline from Perez almost leads to a chance, but it is cut out.
GOAL! Newcastle! Ayoze Perez! A lovely well worked goal from Newcastle to equalise! Shelvey hits a long ball up-field, which is controlled superbly by Gayle and laid off to Yedlin. The right-back whips in a low cross, and Perez finishes with aplomb. 1-1.
An important last-ditch stop from Lascelles stops anyone turning in a dangerous ball in the box from Calum Chambers. The corner is delivered with venom, but nobody gets on the end of it.
An ironic cheer from the stands as Aubameyang attempts a shot from 30 yards out, but slips and scoops the effort.
Close! Alex Iwobi does very well to hold onto the ball in the box, and shuffles it around for a while, trying to find an angle. In the end, his shot is scuffed, though, and the keeper collects.
Penalty shout for Arsenal after Aubameyang hits a shot which glances the hand of Lascelles. Technically handball, but it would be a bit harsh to give a penalty.
GOAL! Arsenal! Lacazette! And the Frenchman responds with a goal! Mustafi lumps a lovely ball up field to Aubameyang, who powers down the left wing. The forward drills a cross past Dubravka and Lacazette buries it at the back post. Advantage Arsenal.
A painful looking challenge from Jammal Lascelles on Alexandre Lacazette there. The Newcastle defender stamped on his foot, but no card.
Nice shot of Paul Gascoigne in the stands, sporting a dashing bleach-blonde hairdo. Lovely. Can Dwight Gayle channel the Newcastle legend's spirit today?
Arsenal are looking a bit panicked when Newcastle attack them. The Magpies are pressing them hard, and it will be interesting to see whether they can keep this tempo up all game.
Some good work down the left from Aubameyang leads to Elneny threading Alexandre Lacazette in just outside of the box. The Frenchman gets it out of his feet and shoots, but it's scuffed and doesn't threaten Dubravka.
Newcastle win a free-kick after Willock clattered Matt Richie. Jonjo Shelvey puts a good delivery in but it's headed away for a corner.
Newcastle putting the pressure on from the off, and looking to rush the Arsenal players on the ball.
Newcastle get us underway!
St. James' Park is resplendent on a lovely spring day in Newcastle. KO is upon us.
Not long until KO now. Arsenal paid tribute to the 96 victims of the Hillsborough tragedy before the game. Today is the 29th anniversary of the disaster.
Rafa Benitez has named an unchanged side from the one that beat Leicester 1-2 last weekend, while Arsene Wenger has made six changes from his Europa League side from midweek. Most notably, 18 year old Joe Willock gets a debut in midfield, while Rob Holding and Calum Chambers slot into the back four in place of Koscielny and Bellerin.
Arsenal, meanwhile, field the following XI: Cech, Chambers, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal, Xhaka, Elneny, Willock, Iwobi, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
And here's how Newcastle line up today: Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett, Ritchie, Diame, Shelvey, Kenedy, Perez, Gayle.
