Iker Casillas will not be the Spanish FA head in August. 'Onda Cero' reports that the goalkeeper has reconsidered his future and he will not stand at the election in August.
The still Porto shot stopper, because he has yet to officially announce his retirement, was going to be current RFEF president, Luis Rubiales' opponent, but he has decided to do a U-turn.
The COVID-19 pandemic has halted Casillas' aspirations. Before the coronavirus, he was determined to fight for the post. However, the proposed date, 17th August, has made him decide to withdraw.
Casillas, according to 'Marca', believes that the fact there is only two months until the election, favours the current president and he thinks the two would still not be equal.
Therefore, Luis Rubiales has practically assured himself re-election as the RFEF president. His first term was on 17th May 2018 after beating Jose Luis Larrea in the election.
