Karius had an evening to forget at the Olympic Stadium, gifting Real two goals as they soared to a 3-1 victory to claim their third consecutive European crown.
However, his first mistake came promptly after an altercation with Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos, leading many to suggest he was still dazed when the incident occured.
In the 49th minute, with the tie still goalles, Ramos made a run into Liverpool's six-yard box anticipating a cut-back from Karim Benzema.
But while the cross was deflected out of danger, Ramos continued to charge toward goal and appears to throw out an elbow, catching Karius who subsequently drops to the floor.
The shotstopper protested heavily to referee Milorad Mazic but the official wasn't having none of it, meaning Ramos escaped punishment.
Just one minute later, Karius made his first terrible mistake, underarming the ball into Benzema's leg causing it to trickle into the back of the net.
One will now never know if things would have ended very differently if Mazic had seen the incident with Ramos...
