With Maurizio Sarri joining the 'Blues', an appointment that was announced on Saturday after Antonio Conte was finally sacked, it seems that Chelsea's recruitment this summer will be very Italy-centric.
The London club are being linked with a host of Serie A players, from Napoli's Dries Mertens and Jorginho to Daniele Rugani and Alex Sandro from Juventus. According to the 'Daily Mail', one of their top targets is Gonazalo Higuain from Juve, as the side look to add more of a threat up front.
After Diego Costa fell out of favour at the club, Alvaro Morata was brought in last summer as a forward replacement, but the Spaniard has struggled to make an impact since his arrival, and Chelsea have come up with a solution to their striking problem.
They plan to offload Morata, who remains a valuable player having arrived for a fee in the region of £65m, and bring in Higuain to replace him.
The Argentine forward is valued at £53m by Juve, but to cut costs Chelsea are keen to execute a swap deal for Morata instead, which would see them kill two birds with one stone.
Higuain, who is 30 years old, is expected to be one of the players to make way at Juve in order to accomodate the incoming Cristiano Ronaldo and his large wage demands.
However, the aforementioned outlet state that, in this vein, the Italian side would prefer a straight-cash deal, after they splashed out £100m on Ronaldo.
