Atletico requested the RFEF to reschedule the first leg of the semi-final against Athletic for 7th February. The 'Colchonero' team will play the derby against Real Madrid on the 4th, so they will have just 2 days to recover, while the Basque side will play their last match on the 2nd. In other words, they will have 48 hours more rest.
Despite the appeal lodged by Atletico, the competition judge has rejected it. There was no agreement with Athletic to change the fixture date and, in the end, the same date will be kept.
Atletico-Athletic will be on 7th February and not on 8th February as requested by the Madrid side. A news that will not sit well with the team led by Diego Pablo Simeone.
Before the news was announced, the Argentine coach had already sent a message to the RFEF for not thinking about his team: "They don't respect the fans. It's unfair that Athletic have two more days rest".
