Arsenal took on Chelsea in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium. Kai Havertz gave the Blues the lead in the 26th minute at the Emirates after Havertz and Werner combined.
Granit Xhaka levelled in the 69th minute and Tammy Abraham put Chelsea back in front three minutes later, but the match was overshadowed by a goal line controversy eight minutes from the end.
The ball was cut back from the by-line th Joe Willock in the middle of the penalty area and his powerful effort hit the crossbar and then bounced in the goal before coming back into play. The linesman, possibly unsighted, did not see the ball cross the line and Arsenal were denied a leveller.
As there was no VAR or goal line technology available, Arsenal were left feeling robbed. The decision clearly upset Arsenal who retweeted a tweet saying that Arsenal had been robbed of a clear goal.
