'L'Équipe' claims that the former Real Madrid boss has his sights firmly set on the role, a sentiment echoed by sources within the French Football Federation. He has even reportedly sought advice from Laurent Blanc in preparation.

This news surfaces following the 27th anniversary of France's 1998 World Cup victory on July 12th. It was during these celebrations that the public discourse around Zidane potentially replacing his former teammate and current national team coach, Didier Deschamps, gained momentum, with Deschamps expected to step down after the 2026 World Cup.

Notably, Deschamps was absent from the event, while other prominent figures such as Blanc, Barthez, Karembeu, Petit, and Vicent Candela were in attendance, alongside other French football icons like Pogba and Michel Platini.
