As a result of the Champions League game between the two sides, the French paper revealed the ins and outs of an operation which was studied for two seasons in Paris, but did not end up happening because of various factors.
The interest from the PSG board started in summer 2015. After the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, the coach which helped Real Madrid win the Champions League again, the Parisians considered it was the moment to ask for Karim.
However, the summer went by and although Benzema was on the club's agenda, there was no contact for him. That said, it all changed when Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the club's main star, announced in 2016 that he was leaving the team.
That very summer, an ambitious plan was being made in the Parc des Princes offices. They wanted to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and his arrival would have been accompanied by Karim Benzema.
In fact, the Frenchman would be signed previously and would serve as an incentive for CR7 to accept a move to Paris the following summer. The board were aware that both had a good relationship on and off the pitch and saw themselves with possibilities of signing Karim, one of the most reputable French players.
However, in the French capital they decided to wait and as months went by, Benzema's name was crossed off the list... because Neymar started to take their interest. The following summer, summer 2017, saw the arrival of the Brazilian star and also Kylian Mbappe, thereby ruling out the Cristiano option and Real Madrid's current leader, Karim Benzema.
