Van Gaal believes that Van de Beek made a mistake when he signed for Manchester United. The player did not play any minutes in the match against City in the Premier League and the former 'red devil' coach analysed his situation under Solskjaer. He doesn't see much room for the player.
"I hope his time will come, but I don't think he made a good choice. If you have Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, what position should Van de Beek be in? He doesn't have the qualities of Pogba and Fernandes. And, now, you see that Pogba often doesn't get a starting place. Where should Van de Beek play then," he told 'Ziggo Sport'.
"There are so many teams that could have done him more justice... also at the top. He's a boy with so many qualities. I think I should have seen him before," he added. It is true that, at the moment, he is not as much of a protagonist as he was last season at Ajax.
Van de Beek could still play as there is a long campaign ahead. Perhaps he will be able to put himself ahead of other quality teammates in the squad to move to the front of the line at Manchester United. Van Gaal will be following him closely.
