The controversy surrounding the Spanish Super Cup seems to have arisen in recent weeks. The RFEF and Luis Rubiales' new idea of having a 'Final Four' has not gone down well in Spain's third largest city.
In fact, Valencia themselves have released an offical statement expressing their discontent with the changes that will be considered, and are expected to be approved, on 29th April.
"Valencia CF have sent the Spanish Federation a burofax message warning them of the possible illegal nature of altering the competition in question in the present season and advising that the club reserve the right to take the relevant legal action in defence of our legitimate rights and interests, should the case reach the extreme of the point being approved at the General Meeting", read the message on the club's official website.
The Copa del Rey finalists also stated that the system of the Super Cup is based on results from the season before, going on to quote RFEF's Circular Number 4: “The clubs who have won the previous season's LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey. If the same club wins both the league and the cup, the Supercopa will be between the LaLiga champions and the runners-up in the Copa del Rey."
In this way, Valencia want to make sure that the outcome of the meeting would only affect the following season's Super Cup and not affect their participation in the next edition.
The RFEF has also recieved plenty of criticism regarding the proposed revenue sharing that the new format would bring.
Valencia themselves would be affected the most, as they would receive just one million euros for taking part in the tournament.
