Two men, two very different records in finals

Zinedine Zidane v Jurgen Klopp. Two completely different careers but with one unifying factor. Both have been accused of not being particularly tactically aware and having relied on luck to get where they are, though as Klopp has pointed out, it is the two of them that are set to contest the biggest match in European club football.

Zidane, a modern day invincible

Of the two, it is Zidane who can rest easy when it comes to finals, with the Frenchman having not lost any of the seven finals he has taken charge in. His record is spectacular. Since defeating Atletico in Milan to claim his first Champions League crown, Zidane has lifted a further six trophies, notably never falling at the final hurdle.

Two Champions League finals, two European Super Cups and two Club World Cups make Zidane's record 6/6 in Europe, whilst the seventh came as Madrid saw off arch-rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup last summer. Real Madrid boast talent, potential, experience and seemingly a guardian angel in these sorts of games.

Klopp: Bereft of successes

On the other hand, Klopp is not someone who has had a particularly good time of things in finals. The 50-year-old turned Borussia Dortmund into a European power and is now doing the same with Liverpool, but his finals record leaves a lot to be desired.

Klopp hasn't won either of the two European finals he has managed in, losing to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in 2013, before seeing his Liverpool side defeated by Sevilla in the Europa League in 2016. Even in the domestic game Klopp's record doesn't reflect brilliantly, having won just three of eight finals contested.
