Tottenham have utilised Wembley as a temporary home stadium, in the wake of building work on a new home venue, considerably overrunning the original scheduled build time.
'Spurs' blushes have been spared by the Football Association at the beginning of this campaign, as they have granted Tottenham a more prolonged stay at the national stadium than originally agreed, until refurbishments have finished on their new stadium.
Chairman Daniel levy has vocalised his opposition to sell the club's temporary home to Shahid Khan, as he is against the notion of selling the national stadium to a rival for both the NFL, and other major football events.
When Tottenham's new ground is finally completed , the venue has agreed to host at least two NFL matches per season, as per a 10 year agreement in direct competition to Wembley, and prospective new owner Khan; who also owns NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars, and Premier League club Fulham FC.
Khan is trying to buy Wembley from the football association for a fee believed to be in the region of £600million, and views the venue as a possible home for a London-based NFL franchise.
Tottenham chairman Levy was recorded saying that although he believes Khan's proposal to buy Wembley would not affect Tottenham's agreement with the NFL, he did state his belief that "He was against the sale of Wembley altogether".
It is thought that the hierarchy within the Football Association are looking to push through the sale of Wembley to Khan, despite numerous sources of opposition among member's of the governing body's council, including Tottenham's director of football operations Rebecca Caplehorn.
After 118 years at White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur took the decision to completely demolish the venue to make way for a new 62,000 seat stadium on the same site in North London.
It was due to open in August, for the start of the current Premier League season, but failed to meet this deadline. And, 'Spurs' are still based at Wembley, after their new ground failed last minute safety checks in September.
Since these two missed deadlines, the club have not set a timeline for the opening of the venue, with the FA set to continue to bail out the club with the use of Wembley for its home fixtures for the foreseeable future.
