Saka ready for biggest Arsenal test, hopes to avoid Madrid magic

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's first-leg clash in London, the Arsenal winger described the tie as the "most important match" he has played for the club.

"In an Arsenal shirt, yes, it will be my biggest game," Saka said during Monday's press conference, admitting that he has already played in two major finals with England, both of which ended in defeat – against Spain and Italy in the Euros.

The England international has featured recently against Fulham and Everton after spending three months sidelined with a hamstring injury. "It's been tough, but the positive is that I've come back at the best time of the season," said Saka, who also spoke about the physical and mental benefits of his time away from the pitch.

"Mentally, it's actually been good for me. At the beginning, it was hard, especially when I was told I needed surgery. But after five or six years of non-stop football, it's been good to take a step back. I feel mentally refreshed," he explained.

When asked about Real Madrid, the 23-year-old emphasised the need to "respect what they've done," but added, "anything can happen."

"We've seen their comebacks, their goals in the final minutes – but I hope that doesn't happen this time," he said. "I'm not even thinking about it", he added when asked whether Madrid should be considered favourites for Tuesday's tie.

He also highlighted Vinicius Jr as one of Real Madrid's standout players: "He's had difficult moments, but he's shown he can overcome anything."
