Referee for Morocco vs Argentina in Paris 2024 to officiate Netherlands vs Spain

UEFA has appointed Nyberg to officiate Thursday's first leg of the Nations League quarter-final between the Netherlands and Spain, which will take place at the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam.
Nyberg will be assisted by fellow Swedes Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Soderkvist as assistant referees, with Christian Dingert and Johann Pfeifer from Germany handling the VAR duties. Swedish referee Adam Ladeback will serve as the fourth official.
The 36-year-old, born in Säter and an international referee since 2016, previously officiated Spain during the last European Championship, when they triumphed 1-0 against Albania in the group stage, courtesy of a goal by Ferran Torres.
Nyberg also served as the fourth official in the semi-final of the Paris Olympics, where Spain, eventual champions, came from behind to defeat Morocco 2-1 thanks to goals from Fermin Lopez and Juanlu Sanchez. He was also the referee for the contentious Argentina vs Morocco match, which was suspended due to safety concerns and did not finish as originally planned, taking place an hour and a half after the supposed final whistle.
The Swedish referee has officiated two matches involving the Netherlands: a 1-2 victory over Wales in the Nations League in 2022 and, a year later, a 2-3 defeat to Italy in Twente, where Italy secured third place.
Nyberg has also been in charge of several significant matches, including the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup final in Argentina, where Uruguay defeated Italy 1-0. He is a regular at European club tournaments, having officiated high-profile Champions League matches such as Manchester City vs Inter Milan, PSG vs PSV and Real Madrid vs Salzburg this year.
