The 'Gunners' had a difficult decision to make after Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club after 22 years at the helm, and went for the Spaniard after he was sacked by PSG.
Emery has had a successful time as a manager despite what his dismissal from the French club may suggest, winning 10 major trophies in the last 5 seasons including three consecutive Europa League titles with Sevilla.
After a disappointing season last year for the north London team, Emery has tried to revitalise the side by bringing in a host of new players such as Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
However, according to former winger Pires, Emery himself is the best bit of business the club could have done in the window.
"The best signing for me is Unai Emery, the manager. Of course I believe in the players, and especially the new players," he told 'Sky Sports'.
"But for Emery it's very important to start very well. He knows he's at a big club, and has a lot of pressure, but I think he has a big character and spirit.".
While Arsenal have won the FA Cup in recent years, they have failed to launch a serious challenge for the Premier League title over the last decade, and the Frenchman believes that his former club's new coach will help them do that with his winning mentality.
"He won in Spain. He won in France. He has a lot of experience and I hope for him and Arsenal that he is successful with the club." Pires added.
