The 21-year-old was a man in demand in the Championship, with Blackburn Rovers and a hots of other clubs keen on adding the flying flanker to their ranks but the attraction of playing for Steven Gerrard proved too good to turn down.
Kent has gained first-team experience during loan spells with Coventry City and Barnsley, though a temporary switch to the Bundesliga last summer went awry as he made just one start for Freiburg during six months with the club, before heading to Bristol City for the second half of the campaign.
"Last season was a disappointing year. I made my debut against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena [for Freiburg] and was involved in a promotion chase with Bristol City, so I did take a lot away from last season," he told Rangers' official website.
"On a personal level, I would like to get a lot of game time this year. I think I have to prove a lot of people wrong from last season, and it is a chance to add numbers to my game - so to get a lot of assists and goals.
"I want to get back to enjoying my football again."
Whilst there were a host of other clubs interested in his sevices, Kent said that choosing Rangers was a straightforward decision.
"I think when the opportunity came around to join a club of this magnitude, it was a bit of a no-brainer.
"They have got a person in charge now in Steven Gerrard who has played at the highest level and achieved many great things.
"To learn from him is great, and I already know some of the players here. To have Michael Beale here too, he got the best out of me in under-23s football at Liverpool."
