Jose Mourinho has been cleared of a charge of using abusive language following Manchester United's win over Newcastle United, the Football Association (FA) has confirmed.
A lip reader was used by the FA to determine what Mourinho said, reportedly a phrase in Portuguese, but they were unable to prove the charge.
However, 'BBC Sport' understands that Manchester United produced a strong defence for their manager and they feel vindicated by the outcome of the case.
Mourinho was facing a possible touchline ban if he had been found guilty. Manchester United came back from two goals down to win 3-2 at Old Trafford.
