"He is the best player in the history of La Liga and he deserves a tribute while he is still alive because I think we are never going to have the opportunity to have another for a long time," said Javier Tebas about Messi in the ceremony held at Espanyol's ground.
It is common for Javier Tebas to praise Leo Messi and his impact on Spanish football. He thinks nobody has performed like him in La Liga.
"I of course will never see anyone like him again and I don't think those of you which are here will either. A player of this quality from such a young age playing in La Liga... the best player in La Liga deserves a homage while he is still alive," said Tebas.
The La Liga president thinks Messi will not leave La Liga and he spoke about the possiblity of him not attending the ceremony. He had not initially planned to attend.
"It seems like he is affected, I am sure of that. If he does not come, I will understand him because of everything which has happened in Barcelona has been very tumultous. I understand players like him, which aspire to win the competition, feel affected," he concluded.
