Ferland Mendy looks set to be an important player for Real Madrid in the 2021-22 season, but he started the season injured with tibial periostitis. He is now back at the RM City and is even touching the ball, but, according to 'AS', the medical services are concerned about his loss of muscle mass. He has not competed since 5th May.
This is the main reason why he has taken so many steps back in his physique. This is not to say that he has made a mistake. It is simply what happens when a footballer goes so long without being able to exercise to his full potential. He is currently working to get back to his best.
The change between the Frenchman's figure before his injury and now is obvious to see. You only have to look at the images published by the club of the group's training sessions to see it. In the last week, not all of them were at Carlo Ancelotti's disposal because several of them were called up to their national teams.
While Mendy regains his muscle mass, his return could come as early as 12th September for the LaLiga clash between Real Madrid and Celta Vigo. Perhaps, in fact, it would be good for him to return to the pitch to continue his quest to regain his competitive rhythm and, as a consequence, his place.
