The Swansea City striker is enjoying his career at the moment, having just signed a new three-year deal with his club and representing his country as their main striker.
He struggled to get in to the first team at the 'Swans' and spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Barnsely, scoring 9 goals in 17 appearances for the Yorkshire side.
However, McBurnie's proudest moments in his short career have been in a Scotland shirt. He made his international debut earlier in the year and has played in all four matches since that game, wearing the no. 9 shirt on two occasions.
"Club football is one thing but, especially growing up as a kid, you want to play for your country." he told the 'BBC'.
"As a striker, you want to be Scotland's number nine."
The ex-Bradford City forward played for his country in their friendly matches in Latin America before the World Cup, and got the chance to play in Mexico's famous Azteca Stadium, almost scoring with a header in the game.
"the atmosphere was ridiculous. At the Azteca there was about 90,000 fans there. It was definitely one you're going to tell your grandkids about.
"I caught it really nice off my head and I thought it's got a chance here and then it bounced straight back off the post," he explained.
The player had considered leaving his current squad Swansea to go and play in Scotland for Rangers, who he supports, but now wants to stay and fight for his place after being given assurances by new boss Graham Potter that he will play a major part in his team.
Should McBurnie get regular football in the Championship, it seems as though he will be pulling on the no. 9 shirt many more times in the future.
