Since joining the 'Clarets' from Cork City in Janaury 2010, Long has made 42 appearances for the club. Last season he made 19 appearances for the Turf Moor club, including 16 Premier League outings, which contributed to their excellent seventh place finish.
So far in this current campaign, Long has made five appearances for Burnley, of those only one has been in the Premier League.
Long spoke to the media following the announcement of his new deal with the 'Clarets', saying: "Last season I played quite a few games in the Premier League, which is the highest level and where you want to be.I'm not in the team at the moment with Tarky [James Tarkowski] and Ben [Mee] doing well and so I've got to bide my time again."

The Irish defender continued: "You have to wait for a chance and then try and take it when it comes, which I think I did last season. I want to be playing games and I'm not happy when I'm not in the team. My main aim is to get in the starting line-up. But you can only pick 11 and I have to be patient and keep working hard. And when the chance comes, I like to think I help the team and I want that to continue."
Long may have been at Burnley since 2010, but in that time he has made a series of loan spells away from the club, most notably with lower league sides Accrington Stanley, Portsmouth, Barnsley and MK Dons.
Long is currently part of the Republic of Ireland squad preparing for UEFA Nations League ties this month, against Denmark on Saturday, and Wales on Tuesday.
