The Spanish champions are thought to have seen several approahces knocked back for the French international this summer, with PSG adamant they will not be selling despite the player having just a year left on his contract in the French capital.
With the transfer window now closed for English clubs, there is nothing that Liverpool can do at present. However, should Rabiot stay put until Janaury without signing a new contract they, like Barcelona, will be able to start discussing terms with the player over a bosman move in the summer.
PSG boss Thomas Tuchel refused to confirm the 23-year-old would be staying at the club following the 3-0 win over Caen at the weekend, saying :“It’s not certain if Adrien stays at PSG. It all depends on him.
“For me he’s a great player. He can grow even more and become a top player.”
According to 'L'Équipe', Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the player, but they are fearful that their plans to pick up the classy playmaker on the free may have been ruined if he has had his head turned by Barca's interest.
Rabiot recently rejected the offer of a contract extension at the Parc des Princes, with his future likely to dominate plenty of headlines in the days and weeks to come.
