Liverpool V Atlético - As it happened.
MORATA! 3-2 Atleti! 4-2 on aggregate! That's the tie! And it is awful from Adrian once again. Morata races through and shoots straight through the goalkeeper. Anfield is in song, but the European champions are out.
Frustration is getting the best out of Liverpool now. Alexander-Arnold clashes with Morata and they are both booked.
Minamino’s cross is headed up in the air by van Dijk and palmed away by Oblak, who is fouled needlessly by Milner in the process. Liverpool’s heads have gone.
Liverpool can’t get any momentum. The subdued atmosphere can’t help, but it’s understandable in the circumstances.
Minamino replaces Firmino. Liverpool looking exhausted now.
Anfield have not stopped backing their team up. An ill-conceived shot from Origi, on the left of the area, goes well wide of the near post.
Origi and Fabinho replace Wijnaldum and Henderson. Gimenez for Correa for the visitors.
HT EXTRA TIME: Liverpool 2-2 Atletico. What a remarkable 15 minutes of football. Firmino had Liverpool in front in the tie for the very first time, only for Llorente to then score twice and give Liverpool a mountain to climb. They need two more goals, without conceding, in the next 15 minutes.
Now Liverpool need two goals or they are out. Atletico broke down the right through Morata, who clipped the ball infield to find Llorente 25 yards from goal. He moved the ball away from Henderson, on the edge of the D, and curled another precise right-footed shot that dipped under the dive of Adrian. He might have done better with that as well, though I’d like to see it again.
GOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! ATLETICO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
Alvaro Morata replaces Joao Felix for Atletico.
Atleti have something to defend again! We will not have penalties now. Henderson crosses, and the ball drops for Salah. He blazes over. Liverpool still looking for a third to get back in this.
Alexander-Arnold played the ball back to Adrian, who kicked it straight to Joao Felix 40 yards form goal. He played a reverse pass to Llorente on the edge of the area, and he curled a precise low shot into the far corner. Huge mistake.
GOAAAAAAAALLLL ATLETICO, WHO WOULD GO THROUGH ON AWAY GOALS!!!!
Wijnaldum scored the first and creates the second. He bursts down the right and crosses for Firmino, whose header bounces back out off the post. The striker's luck is in, though, and the ball falls for him to tap in.
More chances for Liverpool! Wijnaldum’s drive is pushed away by Oblak, who's been key for his team.
Trippier, who has been really good up against Mane and Robertson, makes way for Vrsaljko.
Extra time begins!
Despite Liverpool's best efforts, the tie goes to extra time. See you in a few...
NIGUEZ HAS A GOAL DISALLOWED! It will be checked. He was a million miles offside, in fact, before he headed it superbly into the top corner. Simeone and half the Atletico bench were on the pitch.
Foul from Alexander Arnold, who pushes Joao Felix to the ground as the Portuguese was on a solo run. Free.kick...
OVER AGAIN! It's another Mane overhead kick! He controls from Van Dijk's knockdown and goes for the spectacular, but once again the ball flies over.
Corner for Liverpool, who stay restless.
SO CLOSE! Dazzling from Salah! He beats Koke, then Lodi and then Saul on the right. Moving further and further inside, the winger lashes at his finish and misses the top-left corner. Big chance.
Yet another chance for Liverpool. Milner stands up a cross from the left to Wijnaldum at the far post. He heads it back across the area to Mane, whose spectacular overhead kick flashes over the bar.
James Milner replaces Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been terrific. Interesting change.
Atleti have Liverpool under pressure for once, working the ball really well in the left corner. But a pass towards Correa runs for Gomez, who is then fouled in the area. Liverpool recover with a free-kick.
Liverpool have been the superior side tactically but also physically. They might be going through a bad spell, but this team is showing its worth tonight.
BLOCK! Liverpool getting chance after chance here! Alexander-Arnold thunders in a shot from 25 yards, and Oblak only parries as far as Robertson. But the left-back again cannot score, as Trippier blocks brilliantly.
Oblak has been superb, but he almost gifts Liverpool one, making a mess of a left-wing corner. He is grateful to see the ball drop safely on the toe of Koke just past the post.
Robertson hits the bar! It really looked in... Salah twisted outside Lodi out on the right side of the area and hit a deflected cross-shot into the middle. Robertson got in front of Tripper on the six-yard line, but his header smacked off the crossbar. Having got to the ball, he probably should have scored.
SHOT FROM LIVERPOOL HITS THE POST!!! HOW DID THAT NO GO IN!
Saul tries it from 60 yards out! He spotted Adrian too far out, but thankfully for Liverpool, his shot is wide.
Double save from Adrian! Joao Felix’s low shot was fumbled dismally by Adrian, but he made up for his mistake by charging across the area to sprawl at the feet of Correa.
Firmino misses a great chance! Alexander-Arnold’s curling free-kick from the right beat Oblak and reached Firmino beyond the far post. He mistimed a half-volley at goal, however, and Oblak was able to save. Firmino shouldn’t have given him a chance.
Oblak makes yet another save! Liverpool are all over this. A goal feels moments away.
Atletico make their first change: the midfielder Marcos Llorente replaces Diego Costa, who shakes his head in disgust and then hoofs something as he leaves the field. He’s fuming.
SAVE! Oblak comes to Atleti's rescue once more! Oxlade-Chamberlain has peppered shots at goal, and his latest effort is hard and low from 25 yards. The goalkeeper stoops to turn the ball away.
Liverpool’s relentlessness is starting to wear Atletico down. Salah fizzes a great pass infield to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who lifts a hopeful shot over the bar from the right side of the box. He should have crossed it.
Good effort! Salah feeds Oxlade-Chamberlain in the area, but he fires high across the face of goal. It is good play, and Liverpool are staying patient, waiting for their opportunity to push the ball into the box.
SAVE! Selfish from Salah! Wijnaldum frees the winger with a lovely pass in behind. But Salah goes alone, with options in the middle, and shoots straight at Oblak.
HT: Liverpool 1-0 Atletico. For a long time, that was a very frustrating half for Liverpool. Given a scare by Costa inside a matter of seconds, they worked Oblak with some regularity thereafter but looked set to go into half-time goalless. Then Wijnaldum popped up, as he so often does, and the tie is all square.
A stunning header from Wijnaldum, who's UCL header skills are making him a living legend the Reds! he midfielder sends a powerful header down and beyond Oblak from just in front of the penalty spot. What a lift for the hosts!
Alexander-Arnold hits Felix with a fair, man-and-ball tackle and then shouts in his face. This match is one tackle away from a brawl.
Felipe and Savic make two brilliant defensive headers in the space of 30 seconds. Atletico could really use the half-time whistle.
Atletico appeal unsuccessfully for a yellow card when Henderson fouls Correa. It’s getting very niggly. Just before that, there was a slight shoving match on the line before a Liverpool corner was taken.
WHAT A SAVE! A ball is whipped into the near post towards Roberto Firmino who from point blank range appears to get a slight touch to divert it on target. But Oblak makes a key save and Atletico are still safe.
Arguably Liverpool's best moment of the half. Salah breaks down the right and he looks up to spot Mane unmarked on the edge of the box. His cutback is fired first time towards goal but it is far too central and is effectively straight at Oblak who needs two bites of the cherry to gather the effort.
Correa picks the ball up on the right twice. Atleti beat the Liverpool press, but Correa cannot find Joao Felix in the centre.
A corner is headed away to Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right. His very deep cross is nodded back across goal by van Dijk, and Costa does well to smuggle the ball behind for another corner.
Mane goes in behind on the left and wins a corner. Robertson delivers, Firmino flicks a header on, and Partey blocks. Liverpool want a penalty for handball, but the referee is not interested.
CHANCE! Atleti put bodies in front of Adrian from a left-wing corner, and it almost pays off. The ball is fizzed in, with Felipe first to it just past the near post. He cannot direct his header on target, but Adrian would not have been able to get there.
Atletico are defending deep, with Costa and Joao Felix only a few yards away from their own goal.
SAVE! Big stop from Oblak! Mane's cross is cleared to Alexander-Arnold, whose hurried pass to Oxlade-Chamberlain is controlled well. The midfielder hammers in a low drive, but Oblak is down to save. Robertson centres again on the rebound, yet Atleti clear.
Mo Salah's shot goes over! Mane does wonderfully to recover the ball after a slack Robertson pass, driving forwards and finding Salah. Liverpool have been the better team the past few minutes, creating more chances and going forward.
Liverpool have woken up after that sloppy minute. Trent Alexander-Arnold clips a good ball into the box for Georginio Wijnaldum to get his head on to, but his nodded effort towards goal proves comfortable enough for Jan Oblak to gather.
And inside 15 seconds, Atletico nearly score! Liverpool's backline is a little disjointed as Diego Costa spots a gap to exploit, but after lataching on to a through ball the Reds recover to force him into shooting wide of the near post.
And we're off!
Liverpool are aiming to win the European Cup for the seventh time, and to retain it for the first time since 1978. I’m not sure that will be possible, mind you: it looks increasingly likely that the coronavirus will stop the 2019-20 season from being completed.
Atletico Madrid meanwhile make three changes after their 2-2 draw with Sevilla on Saturday as Thomas Partey, Diego Costa and Renan Lodi come into the side at the expense of Hermoso, Marcos Llorente and Alvaro Morata.
Coming into the side that came from behind to defeat Bournemouth 2-1 are Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson as Fabinho and James Milner make way from the starting XI.
Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak, Trippier, Savic, Felipe, Renan Lodi, Correa, Saul, Thomas, Koke, Costa, Joao Felix.
Liverpool starting XI: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
