Rivalry on the field means nothing when things get personal. This is the case with Virgil van Dijk, who could miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
The centre-back broke down because of a hard tackle by Pickford in the Everton-Liverpool derby. His illness has aroused the empathy of teammates, fans and also rivals, one such rival is Aymeric Laporte.
A little more than a year ago, the centre-back of Manchester City went through a similar situation. In a match against Brighton, Laporte damaged the cartilage and meniscus of his right knee, which caused him to be out for about six months.
After reading Van Dijk's statement on social networks, Laporte was moved by the matter and wanted to send a message of encouragement: "I'm sorry, bro. Best of luck for a speedy recovery, I can't be happy or gloating even if we are rivals".
