Kovacic set for Chelsea medical
The Croatian admitted after the World Cup that he wanted to be playing games this season, be it with Madrid or with another club and he now looks set for a temporary spell in the Premier League.
The former Inter midfielder was offered as a makewight in the £35m deal to take goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Stamford Bridge to the Spanish capital, with that move expected to be completed on Thursday.
Kovacic started just ten LaLiga games last season and with fellow countryman Luka Modric looking set to stay, his path to more regular action looks to be blocked for another season.
Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro remains the club's first-choice stars in the middle of the park, leaving the 24-year-old with no other option but to move elsewhere in the search of minutes.
According to 'Sky Sports', Kovacic will undergo his medical on Wednesday afternoon as his move edges closer to completion.
Maurizio Sarri has made no secret of his desire to add another midfielder to his Chelsea squad and with Tiemoue Bakayoko reportedly set to join AC Milan on loan that frees up space in the squad for the Linz-born battler.
