Italian football was back for the first time since March, with the two Coppa Italia matches taking place one week before the Serie A returns. With no extra time, Juventus knew that a 0-0 draw would be enough to see them through to Wednesday's final. This was because they drew 1-1 in Milan, with the Italian Federation deciding to settle the ties on away goals instead of extra time.

Juventus started the match on top with Costa putting wide early on. They then had a few half-chances before the hosts were awarded a penalty.

Conti was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, with VAR awarding Juventus the penalty. The penalty king Ronaldo had the duty of hitting it, but the Portuguese surprisingly missed, smacking the left post. Milan could breathe a sigh of relief.

Seconds after Milan were given a get out of jail card, Rebic was sent off for a reckless studded challenge into Danilo's chest. No doubt about the card that was given. Juventus then dominated with Matuidi having their best chance, but he could only fire straight at Donnarumma. Ronaldo then tried his luck but the Italian goalkeeper was equal to it.

Milan hadn't won the trophy since 2003 and showed that they are better than their league position suggests with a spirited performance. They almost took the lead when Calhanoglu headed wide in the 48th minute.

Despite the advantage, the hosts couldn't make it count with a Ronaldo who perhaps still needs to be fine-tuned. Milan hadn't given up and Kjaer headed a good chance wide with 10 minutes left on the clock. Dybala then had an opportunity which the Milan keeper parried for a corner. In the dying embers of the fixture, Sandro was next to test Donnarumma with the young Italian again saving.

It wasn't to be for Milan and their wait goes on, Juventus, on the other hand, are in a very strong position for the treble.
