Mexican fans had been warned by their country's FA to stop using the insult, which was shouted at German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the two teams' match up, which the Mexican's win 1-0.
The chant, which is often used in games in the Mexican league, attracted the attention of FIFA officials who were considering disciplinary action against the Mexican FA.
The star took to Instagram to try and persuade fans against using the term.
“To all Mexican fans in the stadiums, don’t shout puto," he wrote.
“Let’s not risk another sanction.”
The Mexican FA have already been sanctioned a dozen times for the fans using the term during the World Cup qualification games.
Mexico are not the only team to have been clampled down upon by FIFA for similar offences, as Chile and Argentina have also faced punishment.
