Emerson's move to La Liga was unconventional. Betis and Barcelona agreed that Barca would sign the player and then send him out on loan to Betis for a couple of seasons.
The full back has performed brillantly in the city of Sevilla and therefore, Barca are planning to get him back even earlier than agreed. After making his debut for the Brazilian national team, Emerson seems to be more and more prepared to make his debut for the Catalan outfit.
The Brazilian spoke to 'AS' during the lockdown and seemed very willing to help Barca whenever neceary. "Yes, I'm prepared now to play for Barcelona. I was also asked that before playing for the Brazil senior team and I said the same thing.
Emerson kept on talking about Barcelona and confirmed that the club have still not got in contact with him to sign him back earlier than agreed. "I'm only thinking about the present. If you have your mind elsewhere, you don't play well for your club, which is now Betis. And I'm enjoying La Liga, my teammates and the city. If I leave in a few months, I will be delighted. And if I stay at Betis, as well.
That said, he says the challenge of playing for Barca does not make him afraid. "I'm not frightened at all. Playing for Barca is a dream I have had since I was a kid. I was always a Barca fan because of the Brazilian stars who played there like Ronaldinho and Dani Alves. And also because of Messi and Abidal."
In the chat with 'AS', Emerson talked about curious things and confirmed that he does not like partying unlike most Brazilians and not the Carnivals either. "Well unlike other Brazilians, I'm not a man of lots of parties. Now I maybe go out more, but in Brazil I didn't have time for anything. I'm very young and football takes up a large part of my time and my life. The Carnival? I don't like it!"
