Modric has sent a message to Real Madrid. Despite being 35, the Croatian midfielder wants to continue at the highest level for Real Madrid and continue in the side.
"I'm living the day to day and we'll see what happens. Renew? Of course I'd like to stay at Real Madrid, but I'm aware that I'm getting old and the club have to look for the best for the team," he argued.
After a poor season following the World Cup and another which saw him improve again, Modric is the best Real Madrid midfielder so far this season.
"I'm good and while I feel important, as I am doing, I'd like to stay. When it's no longer like that, I'll look for new challenges," he said in the Croatia press conference.
The Croatian admitted that he is in good form after having done the whole pre-season. "I want to publicly thank the coach Dalic for allowing me to stay in Madrid to do pre-season with the club. For a player of my age, it's extremely important to have a good pre-season because otherwise you're out of shape all year," Modric explained.
The footballer also spoke about the possibility of retiring with Croatiam something which Rakitic did: "I don't want to put limits or dates. I'm going game by game and I'll see how I feel both physically and mentally."
"Rakitic? We spoke before he made his decision. He told me his reasons and we have to respèct them. I want to thank him once again for everything he's done for the team," Modric concluded.
