Aston Villa's new majority owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, blocked a £25 million offer from Tottenham Hotpsur this summer for the young midfielder, who had been expecting a move due to the financial turmoil suffered by midlands club under former owner Tony Xia.
However the takeover of Aston Villa by the now current owners of the club, assured the removal of an administration order from HMRC, and as such Grealish signed a new five year deal at Villa Park this week.

In an interview with 'The Telegraph' Grealish spoke about his recent contract extension, as well as 'that bid' from Tottenham Hotspur last summer. Grealish admitted his belief that a move to Tottenham could have led to his inclusion in the World Cup squad this summer, as well as playing regular football in the Premier League and Champions League, stating; "Of course there's going to be disappointment there. They've beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, they're playing Barcelona in the Champions League next week.I felt that if I'd gone there I could have maybe been in the England squad by the end of the year.
However, Grealish insisted that he was happy at the prospect of staying at Villa park, stating; "Before the new owners, Villa needed the money so I kind of accepted that me going would save the club. It's not like I was devastated it didn't happen, though, because I've still got to realise how lucky I am to be playing for my boyhood club. I've played over 100 games for Villa and I've only just turned 23."
