This Wednesday, the FA confirmed the sanction and fine for Bernardo Silva for his joke to Benjamin Mendy at the start of the season. In France, a country where the Portuguese played before going to City, they gave their support to the footballer.
"I condemn both racism and those who have punished Bernardo Silva", Lille's sporting director, Luis Campo, explained in 'O Jogo'.
The Portuguese knows the Manchester City players well, as he had a direct relationship with them in Monaco. "I know both players very well. I was in charge of Mendy when he was at Monaco. I also dealt with Bernardo there. I believe that it is a big injustice, he can only have been punished by someone who doesn't know what a football team is."
Campos spoke about how well the two get along. "The relationship between Bernardo and Mendy has always been a special relationship, true friendship, and to see Bernardo punished, honestly surprises me. It is a radical decision that has nothing to do with racism," he insisted.
"When you make that decision, you must think about the human being," he concluded.
