Fortunately, defender Wan-Bissaka was left without requiring treatment following the incident during the Premier league contest, which the sides drew 0-0.
The Metropolitan Police also acknowledged their awareness of the incident, but as of yet, no suspects have been identified or charged. A statement from the police said the following: "Police were aware of a bottle thrown onto the pitch at 16:33hrs on Saturday, 22 September at Crystal Palace v Newcastle. CCTV was reviewed but no suspects were identified or arrested. Additional measures were taken by police and stewards during the remainder of the match to assist in preventing further incidents. No further offenses were identified or disclosed."
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez addressed the incident after the game, paying tribute to his side's travelling support in his post match interview with 'Sky Sports': "We had almost 3,000 fans here and one made a mistake - but the rest were fantastic.If we want to be stronger we need the fans behind us. Our fans away have been outstanding, no doubt about that."
