Atlético Madrid announced that Diego Costa and Santiago Arias have tested positive for COVID-19 in the PCR tests which they done away from the Spanish capital.

Atletico Madrid made public the news that Diego Costa and Santiago Arias have coronavirus after the tests they had doen away from Madrid after their holidays.

COVID-19 has once again affected Atletico Madrid. After the summer break and just before the return to training, the two footballers have tested positive in the PCR tests.

"Diego Costa and Santiago Arias did not attend the pre-season tests as they had a PCR test done themselves and they tested positive while on holidays away from Madrid," the club said.

Both players "are asymptomatic, self-isolating and following the health protocols set out by the local authorities and La Liga. They will therefore not return to training this Friday with the rest of their teammates.

The rest of the Atletico Madrid squad had the tests done this Thursday which the protocol says must be done prior to the 2020-21 season. They were done at the club's sports city in Majadahonda.

Diego Costa and Santiago Arias were not there and neither were the players who are on international duty.
