Champions League Group D 2018/19: All to play for in open group

Every season in the Champions League there is a group that looks weaker than the others, this season it is Group D, with it not immediately obvious who is favourite to progress out of Lokomotiv Moscow, Porto, Schalke and Galatasaray.

Whilst this particular group lacks a dominant force, not that those involved will be bothered given that they can all harbour hope of progressing to the knockout stages.

The group is by far the most balanced of the eight in the competition, with Porto possessing the most experience in Group D.

The Portuguese side won the 2004 Champions League final in Gelsenkirchen at the home of Schalke and they will hoping for more reason to celebrate this time around.

Nevertheless, the Germans impressed on their way to finishing second in the Bundesliga last season, though they have since lost midfield duo Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka.

Lokomotiv were knocked out of last season's Europa League by eventual winners Atletico Madrid.
