Jones used to be a player himself but emphasizes he never had the body muscle of a player. Instead, he now analyses the game and plays a lot of soccer online with a free spins no deposit bonus. Playing online allowed him to get to know the tactics and strategy of his favorite club even better. “Like the move to take in Boukhari. I saw this coming from miles away”, Jones states.
Try, train and achieve
With the first games of the ‘Eredivisie’ behind us, we can’t really state Ajax has shown what they got. They played a taught game against Feyenoord in which they were granted several chances that were left unused. Jones recognizes this: “I’ve noticed the rather slow game of the team during this match. However, with so many new and potential players it could take a while to actually become the dream team they can be. I look at it as nieuwe gokkasten: you need to try and train first before you win, right?”
‘Ajax will let some players go’
Jones does expect Ajax to blossom in the near future. “There will be some difficult decision like the dismissal of Noussair Mazraoui and Perr Schuurs, both players with a lot of talent, but with questionable performance. Furthermore, I expect Andre Onana to leave the club for a better offer. I’ve heard through the grapevine that Barcelona has shown interest in him so this could be one of the last seasons we’re seeing him at as a part of Ajax.”
Change the game
So, what will be added to Ajax in the upcoming term? Jones expects Ajax to change its play to a more offensive game. “This has always been characteristic for the club and has led to great wins in the past. The last matches didn’t quite show this yet, but I think this will be the direction Ajax is heading for in the near future. This strategy was followed by Danny Blind over ten years ago and continued by his successors. While current coach Erik ten Hag hasn’t really had the chance to show this, I’m confident he will integrate this in his strategy as well since offensive is the biggest strength of his club.”
To enforce this offensive play Jones expects Ajax will add some new players within two months. “They’re going big”, Jones emphasizes. “It’s like you’re playing gratis casino spins: it’s now or never!” And Jones may be right because it’s been a while since the club from Amsterdam had a really big win. Part of the issue is that Ajax has been searching for a striker for almost a year now, but their quest didn’t bear any fruits yet. According to Jones, Ten Hag got his eye on Sébastien Haller, a striker who’s currently playing for West Ham United. “This could be the ‘win’ Ajax needs right now. Haller is known for his offensive and energetic game and he’s able to pull up the team to a new level and era.”
Ajax could become the biggest again
With the addition of Haller, Ten Hag might also be able to create a more tense playfield for the opponent. “The center and halfway line will be the focus of the play. This is the place Ajax will be the strongest”, Jones estimates. “Where we used to see a tension field around the goal area, this now will be moved to the midfield resulting in more opportunities for the strikers to achieve a winning goal. With this approach, Ajax might become the biggest club of Europe again.”
