Brazil coach Dorival Junior criticised the racist insults suffered by his player Vinicius, describing them as "regrettable" and claiming they come from "unhinged people".
"The Spaniards and Brazilians have a lot of respect for each other; they show their cordiality. It is regrettable that there are unhinged people who hurl these insults at a boy," he told a press conference.
Dorival Junior's appearance ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Spain (21:30 CET) came after Vinicius burst into tears on three occasions when asked about the racist insults he had received. A situation that for the coach "does not change anything", as they have "a sporting commitment". "You can't lose your reason. The meaning of life is respect for others," he said.
Dorival Junior called for action to punish those who insult the Real Madrid winger. "It is very difficult for a young player who is just starting his career. It also happens in our country, the prosecutor's office should stop it. It is unacceptable that this happens on football pitches," he said.
"It affects all players because they are human beings. It is unacceptable. Our people have a lot of proximity and closeness and we should not let it affect them. It's time to act to stop people throwing all that anger at a player on a football pitch," he added.
"Vinicius is the age of my third son. People shouldn't do that. If there was exemplary punishment, that would stop. If human justice doesn't do anything, divine justice will," he said.
