When Didier Deschamps released his squad list for Euro 2020, everyone was shocked by the inclusion of Benzema. The manager left the past between the two behind them and prioritised the footballing ability of the Real Madrid striker, on the whom the spotlight has been ever since his return.
Benzema and France, current world champions, said goodbye to the Euros soone than anyone could have expected. Switzerland progressed after a dramatic penalty shootout, and Benzema wanted to leave a message to all of the French supporters
"I would have liked to keep on making you buzz for a while longer. Thanks for your support, for the strength you've shown. Nothing is ever easy, we will continue fighting to prepare for the future and come back even stronger", he wrote on his Twitter profile.
Regarding his numbers, the striker leaves with four goals - one of which was from the spot - alongside another which was ruled out by VAR. Benzema will spend some time on holiday before getting back to work with Madrid for pre-season.
