The delegation, including president Josep Bartomeu and director of football Eric Abidal, made the trip to Amsterdam with hopes of sealing a deal for top transfer target Frenkie de Jong. But they were rebuffed by the Dutch starlet, whose priority is believed to Paris Saint Germain. De Jong's current employers Ajax have also been contacted by the Catalan giants, who say they will meet the Dutch club's £75 million valuation for the midfielder.
Manchester City are also in the hunt for the sought-after youngster, with manager Pep Guardiola a known admirer. De Jong has three goals and one assist so far this season, and has already made five appearances for his national side.
