Since before the 2018-19 season even drew to a close, several of Europe's top sides have been involved in a tug of war for yet another Ajax sensation: Matthijs de Ligt.
Knowing of the widespread interest from all around Europe, the captain of the Dutch champions did not hesitate in asking for a large wage from any potential suitors. This put off some interested parties, but due to his outstanding potential and leadership abilities, it was not enough to take him off the market.
It now seems that de Ligt is closer to a move to PSG than a move to Spain, with his agent Mino Raiola having already met with PSG with the intention of reaching an agreement as soon as possible and the player's girlfriend already in Paris.
However, with nothing yet signed, anything could happen. It is proving to be a difficult decision for de Ligt and, according to 'Mundo Deportivo', Barcelona are now trying to convince the Dutchman to join them through two compatriots of his.
The two men tasked with convincing de Ligt to move over to Catalonia are his former Ajax teammate and friend Frenkie de Jong and goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who himself looks set to leave the Spanish champions.
There is no doubt that de Ligt is tempted by the opportunity to play alongside his good friend and, of course, Lionel Messi, but for now the Dutch international is still weighing up the pros and cons before he makes a decision.
