The Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois told Belgian television that he is not in favour of Barcelona being awarded the La Liga title if the season cannot resume.
Courtois mentioned the fact that Real beat Barcelona in the 'Clasico' and said that they have been better than Quique Setien's men.
"We are just two points away and we could be champions, it would be unlucky if the season were cancelled. If it were decided that Barcelona are the champions, I wouldn't think it was fair. We have drawn once against them and beaten them the other time, then we have shown we are a better team than them," he told 'RFTB'.
The goalkeeper compared the situation in La Liga to that of the Premier League, where he used to play: "We are only two points behind, I wouldn't agree with it. In England it's different. There I could understand it as Liverpool are I don't know how many points clear of second. I'd like the season to be completed. There are 11 games left, it's very early to decide who the champions will be."
The Belgian international wants the season to be played to a finish, but insisted that health comes first: "I believe the season should be completed, but safety comes first. You have to bear in mind the safety minds and be 100% sure before playing again. What happens if a player from another team is infected? They are things that have to be considered."
Courtois said that he has kept in contact with his children in Madrid and denied he was scared during the lockdown. "Fear is not the right word. I'm still visiting my children. But there are cases of young and healthy people being infected so of course there's concern."
