Throughout their history, Barcelona have always had their 'Blaugrana' colours in horizontal or vertical stripes, but that is set to change.
Kit manufacturer Nike have introduced a chequered design, similar to the style that Croatia have worn for years. It will see the blue and red colours that the club hold dear in a squares on the front of the shirt.
Nike have reportedly been keen on the radical redesign following the reaction to Nigeria's kit at the World Cup. The American company produced a striking design for the 'Super Eagles' and they flew off the shelves. With Lionel Messi's name on the back of these shirts, the hope is that fans worldwide will flock to do the same.
Older Barcelona fans may be upset with the break from tradition, but it is not the first time in recent years the club have changed their stance on key matters. In 2010, they signed their first ever kit sponsorship deal, parting with a previous policy of keeping their shirts bare from advertising.
