As the sides headed into this encounter, the build up was dominated by their form or lack thereof at the beginning of the current campaign.
Hosts Huesca were rock bottom of the table, with only 7 points from their opening 14 fixtures, while Real Madrid sat eight points off the top of the table, in fifth place with a total of 23 points.
Nevertheless, an upturn in fortune for both teams in recent weeks had the neutral hoping for an entertaining match up between the sides. Thankfully both sets of players were to deliver.
This match began in a surprising manner, with hosts Huesca pressing Real Madrid high in their own half, by means of forcing their superior visitors into making a fatal error.
A bold gameplan, with ferocity and intensity to match; Huesca nearly made their early pressure pay off, as they tested the Madrid rearguard within minutes of kick off.
A run and cross from the left hand side evaded all in white in the middle of the penalty area. But unfortunately for the hosts, defender Etxeita was not expecting the cross, and made a meal of his header, which eventually fell wide of the target.
This early scare did not seem to phase Madrid, who simply resumed control of possession and set about creating a first clear chance of the game for themselves.
In a moment of sheer collective brilliance, Madrid would take the lead from their very first meaningful attacking move.
First, Ceballos set fellow youngster Odriozola scampering down the right wing, and when the full back reached the ball, he delivered a pin point cross into the box.
Having chased the play up the field, Welshman Gareth Bale had the wherewithal to let the ball fall from the sky, before hitting a sweet volley low and hard into the bottom of the net.

The hosts reacted well to going behind, and even threaten to equalise shortly after, with two close efforts of their own.
First striker Avila went close, by firing a low effort at goal, but Madrid stopper Courtois was able to reach the ball and parry it away.
However the ball did not travel far, as it fell to the feet of Moi Gomez, who set himself and fizzed another shot at goal from the edge of the box. Yet again, the Madrid keeper was equal to the strike, but this time he managed to push the ball into touch, and out of immediate danger.
The remainder of the first half could be described as a level boxing match; in spite of all their attempts to control the play, Madrid were forced to defend as many attacks as they had created in the other direction.
Alas the interval would arrive with Madrid still holding onto their slender advantage.

After the break, hosts Huesca continued to impose themselves onto the visitors, as they could clearly see a route to getting level on the score sheet and perhaps even winning the match.
While Madrid had shown glimpses of quality, they had been far from their best; Luka Modric appeared tired once more in the middle of the field.
Huesca continued to push and probe, winning corner after corner, but they lacked the final finishing touch to really punish Madrid.
Midfielder Ferreiro was the hosts star man on the afternoon; he produced a number of long and short range efforts that had Thibaut Courtois scrambling.
Up the other end, before he departed the match, goal scorer Gareth Bale nearly sealed the points for the visitors, but he had two efforts, a drive and a lobbed attempt, saved by Huesca keeper Jovanovic.
Into the closing stages and Madrid has resolved to defend the three points.
The European Champions would have captain Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal to thank, as both defenders headed away coutless crosses and blocked dozens of shots in order to preserve a vital clean sheet.
Huesca would have one final chance to steal a point in the last minute of stoppage time. Unfortuntely, an ill judged corner ball evaded all home players in the penalty area, and the referee finally called a halt to proceedings.
All in all, as well as being delighted with a win, the Real Madrid players will go home relieved, as they know that it would have been easy for them to drop more points this afternoon.
In contrast, Huesca will go away disappointed, as they fought well and more than matched their superior opposition for large portions of the match.
The lesson learned by all players this afternoon; the more clinical side wins.
