Atletico Madrid are not contemplating the departure of Trippier, but fear that it could happen in the next summer transfer window. That is why they are working to remedy the situation or, at least, to have a guaranteed replacement. And that could be Azpilicueta.
The Spaniard's situation at Chelsea is ideal for Atletico's interests. He is in the last year of his contract, just over two weeks away from being able to negotiate freely with him and with no sign of renewing.
And although the departure of Trippier is not something that excites Atletico, the Spanish side do feel that it is something that could happen, as the British press claims that he would not look unfavourably on a return to the Premier League.
According to 'The Guardian', Atletico Madrid would consider the possibility of acquiring the services of Cesar Azpilicueta, a player who finishes his contract in the summer, but who has half of Europe on his trail, starting with Barcelona.
The situation would be ideal for the 'rojiblancos', were it not for the timing: negotiations for Trippier should not start until the summer, and for Azpi anyone could bid from January onwards.
