Arsenal club secretary David Miles believes the ‘tide has got to turn’ for at some point against Bayern Munich following another tough draw at the last-16 stage of the Champions League.
The Gunners have crossed paths with the German giants on a regular basis in recent years.
Two encounters were taken in last term at the group stage, with Arsene Wenger’s side prevailing 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium before going down 5-1 on the road.
They also ran into Bayern in the first knockout round of the 2012-13 and 2013-14 editions of Europe’s premier club competition.
On both occasions it was the Bundesliga outfit who progressed – on away goals first time around, and then 3-1 on aggregate.
Miles hopes an unfortunate continental trend will be broken this season, with Arsenal having shown a commendable level of consistency in the Champions League over the years.
He told reporters: “We are through to the knockout stage for the 17th consecutive season, which is testament to Arsene Wenger and the teams throughout that time.
“But the fans will think we have got the rough end of the draw again – at some stage the tide has got to turn and we will beat them.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, it is not only Bayern who have tripped them up in the last-16 of late.
Their record in qualifying for the Champions League and progressing through their group is remarkable, but so too is their recent record of stumbling out early in the knockout stage.
The Gunners have failed to reach the quarter-finals in each of the last six seasons.
