Manchester United legend Gary Neville is shocked that Marcos Rojo was not sent off for a "shocking" tackle on Idrissa Gueye 16 minutes into their match against Everton on Sunday.
The Red Devils defender, 26, appeared to dive in recklessly on the Everton midfielder early in the game but referee Michael Oliver chose to be lenient.
Rojo walked away from the crunching tackle on Gueye with a just booking, potentially saving Jose Mourinho from being faced with either criticising his own player or lambasting the officiating once again.
"I think that's a red card," Neville said on Sky Sports . "When people go in like that these days... that's a shocker.
"When you leave the ground like that and go in like that, it's a red card. He's got away with that, has Rojo. He's a very, very lucky boy".
Thousands of people descended on Twitter to express their similar astonishment that Rojo had avoided a red card.
Man Utd are unbeaten in five games heading into the Premier League encounter at Goodison Park but are struggling to put together consecutive wins.
If they lose they will be 14 points adrift of Mourinho's former club, Chelsea, who top the division with 34 points from 14 games.
