The last time England started a major tournament with a victory was in the 2006 World Cup.
However, Young is confident this current crop of players can end that 12-year curse by beating Tunisia in their first Group G game.
He told reporters: "You can see in our last two games against Nigeria and Costa Rica that we've started brightly and on the front foot and scored early goals.
"If you start like that in tournaments it could put teams on the back foot and that's what we're looking to do in the first game.
"It is always important to make a good start in a tournament. We want to get off to winning ways. We know each game is going to be tough but we're fully prepared for that first game.
"You can talk about what has happened historically. We are here, looking to do well in training and win our first match."
