World Cup moments: Brazil humiliated

Nowadays referred to as the 'Mineirazo,' 8th July 2014 was a shameful day in Brazil's footballing history. 

Without their golden boy Neymar, who suffered a back injury in the previous round, the hosts headed timidly into the quater-finals, low on confidence. Prior to the game, both sides were undefeated in the tournament, but it was all about to change for Brazil.

Germany got off to a scorching start when an unmarked Thomas Muller stroked home from a corner after just 11 minutes. Brazil's misery was then compounded by the veteran Miroslav Klose who played a one-two off Julio Cesar before finishing neatly. 

Suddenly, it all fell apart for the men in yellow and Germany, efficient as ever, made sure to capitalize. Toni Kroos's Man of the Match magic killed off the game. The German scored a quickfire brace, leathering the ball in from the dee and then slotting home for number four. 

Sami Khedira then struck and the tears started flowing in the stands. With four goals in six minutes, the scoreboard read "0-5" before 30 minute mark and Die Mannschaft were 'Kroos'in. 

Humiliated, Brazil cowered down the tunnel at half-time.

The second-half wouldn't bring much more joy to the Selecao. Substitute Andre Schurrle's double brought the score to a round 7-0 and when Oscar netted a consolation goal in the dying minutes, there were no celebrations from the five-time world champions. 

With the momemtum gained from the 7-1 trouncing, Germany went on to lift the trophy at the Maracana just days later, thanks to a sublime extra-time goal from Mario Gotze. 

Despite Germany's clinical display, the result was characterised by a dire Brazil performance, with rookie defensive errors from David Luiz and Thiago Silva and a contender for the most ineffective match ever from striker Fred.
