The Red Devils were held at home to a 0-0 draw thanks to a resolute Southampton peformance. In fact, it was probably the away side who had the best chances to claim all three points in the game, as they were relentlessly attacking in the second forty-five.
Part of the reason for that was due to midfield wizard Casemiro being sent off late in the first half. The Brazilian went in on Alcaraz with his studs raised, leaving Anthony Taylor with no choice but to send him for an early shower.
This meant it was the second time this season the Old Trafford crowd had seen their star man sent off with a straight red, the other coming against Crystal Palace at home. Similarly to the first one, it was a petulant sending off, which left the ex-Madrid man in tears after he realised his clumsy mistake and the price it is now going to cost.
As this one is his second direct red card of the season, the Brazilian will be forced to sit out the next four Premier League games which are against Fulham, Newcastle, Brentford and Everton. This ban couldn't come at a worse time in the season for the Red Devils, as they are chasing down second place City who are currently eleven points ahead.
