United offer De Gea big-money contract extension to ward off Real interest

With David de Gea constantly on the wish-list for Real Madrid's president, Manchester United are reportedly trying to remove any doubts over the goalkeeper's future with a big-money contract extension.

For the past few transfer windows, rumours have been rife about the future of the Spanish international. A situation which the Manchester club hope to resolve this January.

The 27-year-old missed out on a move to 'Los Blancos' by a matter of minutes during the summer transfer window in 2015 and from that moment, the Spanish giants have wanted to include the shot-stopper in their ranks. Although the possibility of signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao has made a move for the United stopper less likely in recent weeks.

That is why the 'Red Devils' will try and tie De Gea down in an attempt to definitively end any rumours.Club bigwigs wantsto extend the Spaniard's contract, which currently ends in 2019

According to 'The Sun', United want to make him the highest-paid player in the squad along with Paul Pogba, who is also the most expensive signing in the history of English football. As a result, he could earn £300,000 a week.

Sources included in the report claim that "the club is finally going to initiate contact with David to talk about a renewal. There were approaches in the summer, but formal conversations haven't begun yet."

The goalkeeper arrived at Old Trafford in 2011 from Atletico Madrid making 296 appearances in all competitions so far and is regarded by some as the best shot-stopper in the League.
