Two Brighton supporters were stabbed in Rome ahead of UEL clash

Roma take on Brighton in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie on Thursday. The English team's fans have already travelled to Italy to accompany the team and it has not taken long for the first altercations to occur.

According to 'Sky Sports', two Brighton fans, aged 26 and 27, were assaulted by a group of between 6 and 7 hooded men in the Monti district, more specifically in Via Cavour, in the early hours of this morning. It happened shortly after midnight, when they were leaving a bar.

Both fans suffered stab wounds. In addition, the group of hooded men robbed them of their belongings (wallets and documents), according to the police.

Officers from the Viminale police station received a call from a waiter of a restaurant that was in the area where the events took place. Investigators are already trying to find out what happened. Meanwhile, fans have called for "caution" for those in Rome for the match.

"We have been attacked in Rome after leaving a bar. I just want to say to all Brighton fans to be careful," one fan told the 'Mirror'. In addition, this same individual reported that they spent "six hours in a hospital corridor".

Brighton, for its part, advised its fans in a statement not to wear the team's colours. It also warned of street crime in the area and called for extreme caution in the Italian capital.
